Vanishing Ads
Ah, online advertising! The obnoxious and quite often flash(ing) boxes distracting you from reading that really interesting article. Thankfully not all ads are annoying, and sometimes they are interesting enough to warrant a click.
Like many people, I tend to click around on the web pretty quickly, often so quickly that I click on a link and decide afterwards that I wanted to look at a link other than the one I clicked on. For anything but ads this works great. I just hit the back button and click on the link I decided was more interesting than the one I originally followed. However, those few times I find an interesting ad, this usually fails. Ads are loaded dynamically and (usually) there are different ads shown each time I load a page. Because of this, I usually end up never visiting these sites.
Now this is not a big problem for me, but I wonder if I’m alone in this behavior; If I’m not alone, then how much, if anything, are advertisers actually missing out on because of this?
